An hour away from everything
ON THE COURT OR IN THE MALL
There are plenty of local sporting opportunities to keep you on your feet—whether jogging, cycling or walking. Our nine-hole course at Caliente Springs and multiple tennis courts at Caliente and Sky Valley are only the beginning for a real outdoor sporting enthusiast. Play the game yourself or watch the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Take a swing on one of six golf courses at the PGA West La Quinta Resort and Spa, or Palm Desert’s Desert Willow Golf Resort and Classic Club Golf Course. Then, refresh at award-winning Well Spa in Indian Wells. For bicycle enthusiasts, check out the Tour de Palm Springs each January to bike the desert and conquer the sand, or contact the Desert Bicycle Club to join a cycling tour on any weekend.
Indoor-outdoor shopping villages are another great way to rack up miles of walking, while finding plenty of goodies. Serious luxury shoppers can make a three-hour trek to the Camarillo Premium Outlets, or travel the more manageable 30 minutes to the stellar Cabazon Outlets for a menagerie of luxury brands and old favorites, just around the corner.
Don’t forget to stop off at the Cabazon Dinosaurs nearby and grab a delicious date shake at Hadley’s Market while you’re in the area. Back along the Coachella Valley floor, Palm Desert’s Westfield Mall is a cool indoor spot for hot summer shopping, and The River is a pleasant outdoor plaza for shopping, dining and relaxing.
A FEST FOR EVERY SEASON
Visitors drawn to festivals and fairs have something to look forward to at any time of year. With special events pulling weekend visitors to the Coachella Valley and Los Angeles and San Diego Counties year-round, Sky Valley Resorts residents are never at a loss for special events.
January brings the Palm Springs International Film Festival to town for cinephiles, with its sister-fest the Palm Springs International Short Fest every June.
The Riverside County Fair and Date Festival and Palm Springs Modernism Week are both crowd-pleasers in February. Race the Los Angeles Marathon or stand on the red carpet to do some celebrity-spotting at the Academy Awards in March.
April brings the famed Coachella Arts and Music Festival and country-themed Stagecoach Festival, along with thousands of music fans, to nearby Indio, where the best desert memories are made.
In May, July and October, the Joshua Tree Music Festival brings a mellow music and healing experience to the national park in just an hour’s drive.
Nestled in the mountain forest of Big Bear Lake, go full chainmail for the annual Renaissance Faire.
Join millions of visitors all throughout September at the classic LA County Fair, held at the Pomona Fairgrounds. As the legendary home of a myriad of microbreweries, San Diego can’t help but put on dozens of beer-related Oktoberfest celebrations.
Return to Los Angeles for November’s AFI Fest, with special screenings of festival-circuit bests, all with free tickets for the public. And finally, you can escape to the nearby mountain town of Idyllwild for monthly arts events year-round.
ROAD TRIP
Looking for a short road trip with a destination two or so hours away? There’s plenty to discover within a 150-mile driving range, so fill up the tank, grab some trail mix, and choose your own adventure: mountains, desert, valley, sea.
For a day on the slopes that ends with sunshine, drive to Big Bear. Delight a sophisticated palette sipping wines from local vineyards in Temecula.
Appreciate a monument of heartfelt art at Salvation Mountain on the Salton Sea. Splash in the real salty waves of the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, Oceanside, or on the Dana Point ferry to Catalina Island.
Entertainment adventures are also within reach from a Sky Valley abode. Make kids’ Magic Kingdom dreams come true at Disneyland and California Adventure in Anaheim, or enjoy a day on safari at the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park.
Meet the stars in Los Angeles, with live theatre at the Pantages, a hockey or basketball game at Staples Center, a musical masterpiece at the Hollywood Bowl, or a classic afternoon of baseball at Dodger Stadium. Or, be the ultimate beach bum at the world-famous Santa Monica Pier.
Real road-warriors aren’t afraid of the four-hour trek to Las Vegas, Phoenix or Santa Barbara, which might require a whole weekend to really explore. From Sky Valley Resorts, it’s all within reach, and we'll be here when you get back.
